Usually home sales tend to plummet during fall. However, this does not mean that you should not take advantage of this beautiful period to sell your home. It is true that most couples with children will try to seal the deal prior to the start of the new school year, but there are still empty nesters who will be searching for a new home well into fall. To help sell your home quicker read the three tips below.

Autumn curb appeal: It is important to be aware of the market situation. During autumn the real estate market will slowly shift from a sellers’ to a buyers’ market and to make your home stand out from the rest the first thing that you should focus on is the curb appeal of the home. The way the home looks from the outside is what will actually attract potential buyers. Make sure to keep the front and back yard looking neat, therefore mow the lawn, rake the leaves, trim the trees, and if you have a deck/patio keep it looking inviting by arranging it so that the outdoors matches with the indoors (buyers will get a first look of the back yard from the inside). Fall is an amazing time, full of color to try to blend the outer appearance of your home with the season. If you have a dark exterior, you will get better results by giving the home a fresh coat of paint, using a warm color. Do not go over-board with autumn details to detract from the home itself. It is best to add a few touches such as additional out-door lighting, some fall flowers (aster, toad lilies, and golden rods are good choices), pumpkins, and a front door wreath are more than enough.

Clean Up: The curb appeal will catch the buyers’ attention, but part of the first impression lies when the buyer opens the door. To further capture the interest of the buyer, the interior of the home should match the exterior. Buyers want a clean, fresh, and spacious home. You will achieve this look by eliminating clutter and cleaning the place up. Remember that less is more, especially if you live in a smaller home, throw away all extra knick-knacks. The windows should be squeaky clean, counter tops and other decorating pieces should be dust free, also do not forget to vacuum the place. The kitchen and bathroom are the key rooms to focus on, many will base the cleanliness of the home by thoroughly examining these two spaces. However, this does not mean that you should forget about the bedrooms, living room, and the basement.

Cozy touch: There is nothing better than entering a home that has that warm touch to it. To create this ambient give the home a fresh coat of paint, and make sure that the thermostat is set to a comfortable temperature. Play with the lighting of the home, it is important to incorporate as much light especially now that the days are shorter, also open up the blinds and curtains to let the light in. If you have special features of the home, such as a fire place, make it stand out and decorate the rest of the home by focusing around that feature. To give the space more life, add some bright pillows (oranges, reds, and yellows are the colors of the season). Your goal is to awake all the senses; instead of buying a nicely scented freshener bake a batch of cinnamon-laced carrot/apple muffins to really leave that lasting impression on potential buyers.
